About Erik

Erik van Schaaik

Erik van Schaaik is a writer, director, and animator based in The Hague, Netherlands.

He began his filmmaking career at twelve, producing Super 8 thrillers that aired internationally. During his graphic design studies, he created animations, live-action dramas, and documentaries for Dutch television.

After graduating, he worked in children’s television, creating shows like Sausage Dog Titus (1996) and Piece of Cake! (2003).

Erik is best known for his animated short films Vent (2005), The Phantom of the Cinema (2008) Under The Apple Tree (2015), and The Smile (2022).

Currently, Erik is developing a hand-drawn film, Lazy Dog.
