Press snippets that make us Smile

A highly imaginative, playful shift in theme around #MeToo. It was comedy, but it was also a bit eerie. It was very clever; everything was very well put together.

(Razor Reel Flanders – Best Film Award – Melies d’Argent)

The Smile is a nuanced and original short film, as with the language of mockumentary it sweeps through film history with great knowledge and humor, creating a hilarious character with allusions – for those who want to see them – to current issues (ex: Me Too scandal) and a beautiful roundup of quotes from various eras of cinema, journalism and television. All this with impeccable and very entertaining direction, beautiful character design, and very accurate graphics. There is no lack of horror flavor, with the disturbing question left at the end: will the protagonist really have been guilty of the crimes he is accused of? The audience will decide…

(TOHorror Filmfest Italy)

The Smile raises unexpectedly deep philosophical questions in a grotesque form.

(Rising of Lusitania – AnimaDoc Film Festival – Poland)

The young organizers had a big crush on this beautiful film!

(Du Grain a Demoudre, France)

Hunger or… innuendo? I think you know where I am going with this, when they talk about actresses who like being eaten… now in this case it is meant literally (right?)… so no pun intended I reckon. But this really well-made short movie is something to behold. A star you’ve never heard of, in movies you’ve never seen… well that is not entirely true. They all seem inspired by real movies — with many funny stabs at the film world, directors, studios and titles. That all said, I assume the hand made characters and the love for detail is really something that one is able to appreciate. The ideas this has… some movies do not have them in 90 minutes or even two hours. Well-made and tightly written… a fun (if your humor matches that of the filmmaker) little trip you can take! More than recommended.

One of the funniest, most interesting, most sophisticated and just best short films I’ve ever watched in my entire life! Love the animation, the story, and everything in between…! Thanks for making this gem and thank you, my dearest destiny, for letting me stumble on this beautiful piece of art!

Surprisingly intriguing and with a storyline that captivated and innovated. In addition, a well-executed stop-motion animation.

The creators were ‘stuck on all fours’ thinking about this. Genius.

Okay, okay, CORALINE is cool, but have you seen THE SMILE?

BoJack Horseman reptile version.

It’s hilarious.

This is exactly the type of animation I want to make in the future. The story was quirky and interesting. The visuals were vibrant. The puppetry was great along w the movements. I really also liked this sort of mockumentary style. I abso loved the faces and the dramatic, weird facial expressions. This was super funny, and I loved the main croc. I also liked the underlying meaning of this sort of protection of men in Hollywood. It was a smart way of creating underlying meaning to a funny, silly animation.

Lyle, Lyle Crocodile meets Babylon in this hilarious animated short. Great stuff.

What could be better than a German (Dutch) crocodile entering the film industry?

I really liked this short film. It pays homage to B-movie cinema and addresses cancellation from a special perspective, bordering on comedy in some situations. Congratulations to the entire team behind the short film.
